6. And when I first became established in the land, Gordian Caesar drew together an army from all the land of Rome, Gothia, and Germany; and to Asurestan (=Babylonia) he came against Iran and [against] me, and at the boundary of Asurestan at Mishik there was a great face-to-face battle.

7. Gordian Caesar was killed, and the army of the Romans was destroyed, and the Romans made Philip Caesar.

8. And Philip Caesar came to me for supplication, and for their souls gave 500,000 dinars in blood money to me, and he was established as a tributary. And because of this I gave Mishik the name Peroz-Shapur (Victorious-is-Shapur).

9. And Caesar lied again, [and] did harm to Armenia. And I moved against the land of the Romans, and an army of Romans 60,000 strong was killed at Bebalis (=Barbalissos).

30. And the men, who from the land of the Romans, from not-Iran, were led back as spoils?, into Iran, into Persis, Parthia, Xuzestan, Asurestan and the other lands, land by land?, where settlements were established? by me and my father and forebearers and ancestors, there they were settled.

31 ud amāh anīz vas šahr xvāst, ud vas] nām [ud nēvīh kird, ī ēdar nē nibišt,] bē ēn and. az [ēn] kird framād [nibištan] kū kē pas (az-an) bavānd hān ēn nām ud [nēvīh ud xvadāyīh ī amāh dānānd.
31. Ud amā anī-ž was šahr wxāšt ud was nām ud nēwīf kerd, čē ēd nē nibišt, bēž ēd āwand až ēd kerd ubdišt nibištan, kū kē paš až-an bawād, im nām nēwīf ud xwadāyīf čē amā zānāh.
31 ΚΑΙ ΗΜΕΙC ΕΤΕΡΑ ΠΟΛΛΑ ΕΘΝΗ ΕΖΗΤΗCΑΜΕΝ ΚΑΙ ΠΟΛΥ ΟΝΟΜΑ ΚΑΙ ΑΝΔΡΕΙΟΤΗΤΑ ΕΠΟΙΗCΑΜΕΝ Α ΕΝΘΑΔΕ ΟΥΚ ΕΝΕΓΡΑΨΑΜΕΝ ΠΛΗΝ ΤΑ ΤΟCΑΥΤΑ ΔΙΑ ΤΟΥΤΟ ΕΚΕΛΕΥCΑΜΕΝ ΓΡΑΦΗΝΑΙ ΙΝΑ ΟCΤΙC ΜΕΘ ΗΜΑC ΕCΤΑΙ ΤΟΥΤΟ ΤΟ ΟΝΟΜΑ ΚΑΙ ΤΗΝ ΑΝΔΡΕΙΑΝ ΚΑΙ ΤΗΝ ΔΕCΠΟΤΕΙΑΝ ΤΗΝ ΗΜΕΤΕΡΑΝ ΕΠΙΓΝΩCΕΤΑΙ
31. And by me many other lands were obtained, and many [deeds of] fame and bravery were accomplished, which are not written here, but these so numerous deeds were commanded to be written down for this reason: so that whoever comes after me will recognize the fame, bravery, and rulership that was mine.

32 ud pedisāy cē yazd amāh az ēd gōnag dastgird kunend, ud ped yazdān ayyārīh ēn and šahr xvāhem ud dārem, ōh amāh-iz šahr ō šahr vas ādur varhrām nišāst, ud vas muvmard] kirbagīh kird, u-n [vazurg yazdān vinārišn kird.
32. Ud *ēd-rāδ {kaδ} kū yazad amā až ēd gōnag dastgerd karēnd ud pad yazdān pušt im āwand šahr wxāzām ud dārām, ōh amā-ž šahr ō šahr was ādur Warhrān nišāst ud was moγmard kirbagīf kerd ud wuzurg yazdān windārišn kerd.
32 ΚΑΤ ΕΚΕΙΝΟ ΟΥΝ ΟΤΙ ΟΙ ΘΕΟΙ ΗΜΑC ΟΥΤΩC ΔΑCΤΙΚΕΡΤΑC ΕΚΤΙCΑΝ ΚΑΙ ΕΙC ΤΗΝ ΒΟΗΘΙΑΝ ΤΩΝ ΘΕΩΝ ΤΑΥΤΑ ΤΑ ΤΟCΑΥΤΑ ΕΘΝΗ ΕΖΗΤΗCΑΜΕΝ ΚΑΙ ΚΑΤΕΧΟΜΕΝ ΔΙΑ ΤΟΥΤΟ ΚΑΙ ΗΜΕΙC ΔΕ ΚΑΤΑ ΕΘΝΟC ΚΑΙ ΕΘΝΟC ΠΟΛΛΑ ΠΥΡΕΙΑ ΓΟΥΑΡΑΘΑΝ ΙΔΡΥCΑΜΕΝ ΚΑΙ ΠΟΛΛΟΙC ΑΝΘΡΩΠΟΙC ΜΑΓΟΙC ΤΑ ΑΓΑΘΑ ΕΠΟΙΗCΑΜΑΝ
32. And for this reason – since the gods made me their ward in this way, and with the support of the gods I acquired and possess these so numerous lands – therefore many Bahram fires have been established by me, many good Magi ordained, and the cults of the gods made great.

And here too through this inscription I establish: a fire, Husraw-Shapur in name, for my soul and my future fame; a fire, Husraw-Adur-Anahid in name, for the soul and future fame of Adur-Anahid, the queen of queens, my daughter; a fire, Husraw-Ohrmezd-Ardashir in name, for the soul and future fame of Ohrmezd-Ardashir, the great king of Armenia, my son;

34. another fire, Husraw-Shapur by name, for the soul and future fame of Shapur, the king of Meshan, my son; a fire, Husraw-Narseh by name, for the soul and future fame of Arier, the Mazda-worshipping Narseh, the king of Hindustan, Sakastan, and Turan up to the shore of the sea, my son.

35 ud hān [ī imēšān ādurān] dād u-n [cē] ēvēn nihād, ōh-iz harv abar pādixšēr nibišt. bē az hān ākbrīd hazār ī az tarkafišn ō amāh ēvēn būd, ud amāh imēšān ādurān dād, hān framāyem kū ēv kirīyed:
35. Ud hō, čē imīn ādurān dahām ud čē aβδēn awestād (?), ōh-iž harw abar pādixšīr nibišt. Ud až hō akbrīd 1,000 čē až *tarkafišn ō amā aβδēn būd ud amā imīn ādurān dād, hō ubdēsām kū hēb *kirihēd.

35. And that which I granted to the fire and how it was established, this all was written down also according to protocol. And from the 1,000 lambs that are traditionally due to me from the surplus, and those which were given by me to the fires, with respect to those I commanded that this [the following] be done [i.e. sacrificed]:

38. of Staxryad, the queen, and of Hormezdag, the son of the king of Armenia, of Hormezd and Hormezdag and Odabaxt and Wahram and Shapur and Peroz, the sons of the king of Meshan, of Shapurduxtag, the daughter of the king of Meshan, and of Ohrmezdduxtag, the daughter of the king of the Saka: one lamb, one grīw and 5 hōfan of bread, and 4 pās of wine;

39 ud hān ākbrīd ī abārīg, hān dā pettūyād, andum ped avēšān ruvān kē šāhān šāh framād ruvān yaštan,
39. ud hō akbrīd, čē až ōδ pardažēd yad pattāwēd āwadīn pad hawīn arwān kē amā ubdišt arwān yazīdan.

39. and those lambs which out of these are left — so long as they last — for the souls of those for whom I commanded them to be sacrificed?.

51 ΝΥΝ ΩCΠΕΡ ΗΜΕΙC ΕΠΙ ΤΑC ΧΡΕΙΑC ΚΑΙ ΘΡΗCΚΕΙΑC ΤΩΝ ΘΕΩΝ CΠΟΥΔΑΖΟΜΕΝ ΚΑΙ ΤΩΝ ΘΕΩΝ ΚΤΙCΜΑ ΕCΜΕΝ ΚΑΙ ΕΙC ΒΟΗΘΙΑΝ ΤΩΝ ΘΕΩΝ ΤΑΥΤΑ ΠΑΝΤΑ ΤΑ ΕΘΝΗ ΕΖΗΤΗCΑΜΕΝ ΚΑΙ ΚΑΤΕCΧΑΜΕΝ ΚΑΙ ΟΝΟΜΑ ΚΑΙ ΑΝΔΡΕΙΑΝ ΕΠΕΠΟΙΗCΑΜΕΘΑ ΚΑΚΕΙΝΟC ΔΕ ΟCΤΙC ΜΕΘ ΗἉC ΕCΤΑΙ ΚΑΙ ΕΥΤΥΧΗC ΕCΤΑΙ ΚΑΚΕΙΝΟC Ε ΠΙ ΤΗC ΧΡΕΙΑC ΚΑΙ ΘΡΗCΚΕΙΑC ΤΩΝ ΘΕΩΝ CΠΟΥΔΑCΑΤΩ ΙΝΑ ΟΙ ΘΕΟΙ ΒΟΗΘΟΙ ΑΥΤΩ ΕCΟΝΤΑΙ ΚΑΙ ΔΑCΤΙΚΙΡΤΗΝ ΕΑΥΤΩΝ ΠΟΙΗCΩΝΤΑΙ
51. As I now apply myself to affairs and the cult-business for the gods and am the ‘dastgerd’ of the gods, and as I with the help of the gods acquired and possess these so numerous lands, and acquired fame and bravery, [in this way] should whoever will come after me and will be successful apply themselves to affairs and the cult-business for the gods, so that the gods will be an aid [to him] and will make [him] their ‘dastgerd’.
